In 2021, it’s easy to take for granted that “everyone” is on social media – including world stars and celebrity families. Admittedly, there are more who do not choose, or need, to follow the current. Movie star Angelina Jolie (46 years old) is among those who have been away from social media for years.
On Friday, the 46-year-old created a profile on Instagram. The reason is something out of the ordinary – because on the platform that so many revolve around one’s life, Jolie wants to shine a light on injustice and suffering.
Currently, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate through social media and express themselves freely. Jolie wrote in her first post on Friday afternoon, so I came on Instagram to share the stories and voices of those fighting for basic human rights around the world.

The movie star enclosed photos of a handwritten letter she allegedly received from Afghanistan, where the Taliban recently took control of the country. Select information has become illegible, possibly for security reasons.
– This is a letter I received from a teenage girl in Afghanistan, the 46-year-old writes.
In the letter, the girl expressed her fear for life under Taliban rule.
– We have lost our freedom, the teenage girl wrote.
She completes:
– Before the Taliban came, we had all the rights, and we were able to defend our rights freely, but when they came, everyone was afraid and we thought our dreams were gone.

– I was on the border with Afghanistan two weeks before 9/11, where I met Afghans who had fled the Taliban. 20 years ago she writes and adds:
It is exciting to see Afghans once again exposed to fear and insecurity. Spending so much time and money, observing the flow of blood and lost lives, for this to happen, is an incomprehensible failure.
In just a few hours, the post has received over 1 million likes, and Jolie has 3.6 million followers on the platform at the time of writing. Several media outlets also reported the movie star’s debut on Instagram, including CNNAnd Sky News And diverse.
