Ariana Grande to Step Back From Public Appearances After Tour, Citing Ongoing Public Scrutiny

Published on

Pop superstar Ariana Grande plans to take a break from public life after wrapping up her Eternal Sunshine tour next month, citing the intense and ongoing public attention surrounding her personal life and appearance.

The decision also means Grande will no longer appear in a planned 2027 London revival of Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed musical Sunday in the Park with George, a production that had generated significant interest among theater fans.

Ariana Grande Announces Hiatus After Tour

According to a statement provided by Grande’s representative to People magazine, the Grammy-winning singer will step away from public-facing work once the Eternal Sunshine tour concludes.

The representative said Grande “will be taking a step back from visibility” after the tour ends, explaining that years of “endless, ongoing public scrutiny” influenced her decision.

The statement added that Grande is looking forward to finishing the tour “on a high note, both healthily and happily” before taking what was described as a well-earned break from public appearances.

Grande’s final scheduled tour performance is set for September 1 in London.

Grande’s team also emphasized the physical demands of her live performances.

“She performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved,” the representative said. “She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night.”

The comments appear intended to address ongoing public discussion about the singer’s health while underscoring her ability to complete the tour successfully.

London Musical Will Move Forward Without Grande

Grande had originally been announced as part of the cast for the 2027 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, where she was expected to appear alongside her Wicked co-star, British actor Jonathan Bailey.

Following the announcement of her hiatus, the production company confirmed that Grande would no longer participate.

A representative for Empire Street Productions said the company fully supports her decision.

“Following this evening’s announcement from Ariana Grande’s team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George,” the representative said.

“We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support. We wish her nothing but the best.”

No replacement has been announced for the West End production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical.

Public Attention Intensifies After New Album Release

Speculation surrounding Grande’s appearance and health has circulated online in recent years, a pattern increasingly common for high-profile entertainers navigating social media and constant public commentary.

That attention intensified following the release of her latest album, Petal, which debuted two days ago, along with promotional appearances tied to the project.

The renewed discussion has placed Grande back at the center of online conversations about celebrity image and public expectations.

New Music Video Addresses Criticism

Grande’s latest single, Petal, appears to reflect some of those experiences.

In the accompanying music video, she portrays a performer who repeatedly faces harsh criticism during auditions. The character is told she is “not good enough,” “desperate,” and receives contradictory comments suggesting she both “should get some work done” and has had “too much work done.”

The fictional performer ultimately responds by taking a chainsaw to her critics, a dramatic scene widely interpreted as commentary on relentless public judgment and unrealistic expectations placed on artists.

Looking Ahead

While Grande is stepping away from public appearances for the foreseeable future, her team has indicated that the immediate focus remains on completing the Eternal Sunshine tour. The break is intended to give the singer time away from the spotlight after years of sustained public attention, while the planned London revival of Sunday in the Park with George will continue with a replacement to be announced at a later date.
