Armed Forces Homs | US approves possible Norwegian request for military equipment: Includes 16 HIMARS systems: Includes 16 HIMARS systems

The United States has approved a possible sale of military equipment worth approximately NOK 6.2 billion ($580 million). The request includes:

  • 16 copies of the HIMARS missile system.
  • 15 copies of the GMLRS missile system.
  • 100 ATACMS missiles.

– The proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally that is an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe, the US agency wrote. Military cooperation in a press release

The Americans wrote in the press release that the sale would not shake the military balance in the region and that the US military capability would not be affected by the potential sale to Norway.

The main manufacturer of weapons systems is the American arms giant Lockheed Martin.

The official range of the HIMAAR is 70 kilometers, while the official range of the ATAC is 300 kilometers.

Both weapons systems have been very effective for Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Nettavisen has requested comment from the Ministry of Defence, but has not yet received a response.
