Audi's Brussels plant may now have a buyer

Among the potential suitors for the Audi plant in Brussels is a well-known Chinese car brand.

After the announcement that Audi may close its electric car factory in Brussels, Belgium, NIO appears as a potential buyer, as reported by the Belgian newspaper By find.

Thus, the Chinese manufacturer appears as one of the potential interested parties in occupying the infrastructure by producing its models, avoiding the import tariffs on electric cars made in China, imposed by the European Union. Since July, NIO has been subject to a 21% rate (in addition to the current 10%).

However, in the past eight months, the manufacturer has sold 1,777 cars in Europe, with the ET7 topping the charts, according to DataForce.

According to the Imam AutomobileThe Chinese brand declined to comment. However, representatives of the Belgian Federation reported that a delegation of potential Chinese investors visited the factory in Brussels.

According to Audi, demand for the only model produced at the plant – the Q8 e-tron – has dropped significantly recently, to the point that the brand has announced that it will stop production.

The announcement caused a stir inside the factory, leaving about 3,000 angry workers waiting for clarification about the future of this unit.

Earlier this month, a group of factory workers seized the keys to about 200 Audi cars. It was the first major public action by a union representing Volkswagen Group workers since cuts and factory closures were announced across Europe.
