Roger Schmidt presented, on Tuesday, a preliminary bid for the duel with Estoril, in the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup. Benfica meets the Canaries again, after winning 5-1 last Sunday, in a match that counts in the 12th round of the league.
“It’s a completely different game. Now that we know each other, we can use Sunday’s match to prepare for tomorrow’s match. We know Estoril is an excellent team. We want to show the same focus. We have every chance of winning the match”, he began.
The coach was asked about the fact that he is seen as an idol for Benfica fans, considering it important for the fans to be happy, but cautioned against achieving nothing: “We are still at the beginning of the season, and I know we are. It’s a good moment, but we have to keep going, trying to develop and improve the team, and be humble. If we continue like this, we will have more chances to win matches and titles. I’m glad the fans are happy. It’s good for us to have fans and to feel like we give everything. Happy fans are a great motivator for us.”
Roger Schmidt also spoke about the happiness shown by the players: “I think it is very important to be happy, not only in football, but in life. When we achieve victories and goals of course it is even better. Happiness alone does not make a difference, but it is important.
