Benfica postpones statute review, Fernando Ceará resigns | National Football

After the general approval, on Saturday morning, by the 1,644 Benfica members present in the stand number, to postpone the review of the statutes for one month.

This is the scenario that also led to the resignation of Fernando Ceará, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Assembly of Luz.

Finally, after preventing the departure of Fernando Ceará, in the afternoon, from “condemning” the main meeting of Benfica – José Pereira da Costa took over the presidency of the MAG -, the president of the club's board of directors, Rui Costa, addressed us asking the members to apologize for what happened in the second half of the day and to promise to complete the legal review (electoral promise of the current president) in the future assembly.

The single global proposal for the revision of the Benfica Statutes, resulting from negotiations between the authors of the three global proposals submitted to the General Assembly Board (the Directorate, the Benfica Service Movement and the Statutes Committee), aims to broaden the scope of the discussion after the final revision (2010) had little participation.

Among the most important points, highlighting the determination of three consecutive terms for the chairmen of the Board of Directors, the General Assembly and the Remuneration Committee.

The proposal also proposes that the consolidated accounts of the Benfica Group, and not just the club's own accounts, would be voted on at general assemblies. The club's majority in SAD would become legally binding, ensuring its control over management and the permanent appointment of the chairman and executive committee.

Fernando Ceará leaves

With the vote delayed in the specialty, the candidate for the next elections, João Diogo Manteigas, submitted a request to continue the assembly at another date, as the MAG president had set the deadline for approval at 8 pm on Saturday.

After receiving the request, Fernando Ceará put it to a vote, then left the ward resigning, after the members approved.

João Diogo Manteigas had criticised the delay in the legal review process, as well as the lack of transparency and the violation of deadlines. Although the meeting continued, the vote on the accepted proposals in the discipline, which will be followed by the final global vote on the changes, was halted early in the evening.
