Benfica wants the top scorer and the most expensive player in the Danish League

Published on

Andreas Schilderup is only 18 years old and is the top scorer in the Danish league. The contract ends in 2024 and Rui Pedro Braz is trying to bring him in in January. The Reds sporting director is on the ground and looking to sign himself with a youngster who is considered a great talent in his country. Sevilla will already see a bid of €10m in the summer rejected.

About a week away from the wide open winter transfer market, Benfica are already moving so they can make the adjustments to the squad that Roger Schmidt believes are necessary. On the Eagles’ table, there is already a name that SAD, through sporting director Rui Pedro Praz, has decided to set its sights on: Andreas Schjelderup. The commander will have been to Denmark and will be on the ground to try to close the terms of an agreement for this Norwegian flank.

An 18-year-old linked with Nordjylland, the current leader of the Danish championship, and with a contract until 2024, Schilderup is seen as one of his country’s greatest football promises. Despite his young age, he was a leading figure in the Farum team: he is by far the league’s top scorer, with ten goals in 17 matches, of which 16 are a starter.

Versatile, the striker can play in various positions up front, either on the wings or as an attacking midfielder, although he is preferred as a left winger. In terms of characteristics, Schjelderup is a very technical player, has a vision of the game and is also an outstanding finishing touch, an aspect in which he has been developing over the past few years.

Benfica are eyeing this Norway Under-21 international with great interest, but also knowing that his name is on the list of many other teams in Europe: for example, in the last market window he was set as a target by Sevilla who, according to press reports Danish, who had seen an offer in the region of €10m, with bonuses, turned down by Nordsjylland.

At the moment it is not known exactly how far Benfica will be willing to put him on Gulls’ table to bring Schelderup to Luz. But the club’s intention is for the winger to be present in Portugal as early as January, thus increasing Roger Schmidt’s options in the team’s most advanced line for the final attack of the season. The Eagles’ first approach has been completed and now there is a full process that will follow the normal negotiation course in these cases. Despite wanting the player to really be in that market window, Benfica doesn’t rule that out either, and if that’s the potential path for an athlete with massive talent and potential, they can only guarantee it in the summer.

Extremeo is the most valuable in the league

Completing the third season in Nordjelland, entering in 2020/21 Coming from the Bodo/Glimt schools in Norway, Schelderup has been highly appreciated throughout the season and this is already reflected in his quote on the Transfermarkt: In more than the last update of athletes’ values by this specialized portal The Norwegian is now valued at €9 million. This is because it has increased by 5 million euros compared to the previous record. With this height, he became the most valuable player in the Danish league, along with Evander and Dreyer, both from Midtjylland.
