Blue whale: – It has not happened in a hundred years

A giant blue whale was recently found washed ashore on a remote beach outside the capital, Montevideo, Uruguay.

This is the first time in more than a hundred years that a whale of this type has been found dead on land.

It was a local fisherman who spotted the whale and informed the authorities.

Jaime Coronel, spokesman for Uruguay’s Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, said the animal will be examined by experts so they can determine the cause of death.

The spokesperson says they have not received reports that the whale was infected with bird flu, which has been detected in whales in a number of other countries recently, including Chile, Argentina – and our neighboring country Sweden.
