Atlético club president Ricardo Delgado used social media to leave a message asking for support from the people of Alcantara, at a time when he was preparing for the return of football to the national championships.
“In 6 years, the Portuguese club Atlético Clube has recovered: it has emerged from bankruptcy for the club and SAD, from the last Lisbon division in top football, from a complete lack of direction in youth teams and in methods, launching a new model. Today, Atlético has restored the infrastructure, and the team Senior football, national championship futsal and basketball teams, competitive youth teams,” the manager wrote, referring to the future:
But the future does not consist only of works and achievements; It is above all the fruit of the labor of the present. If the motto of the governing bodies in office is the union, we cannot help but point out that this is also the moment to feel that the partners, the living forces of Alcântara, the companies, the merchants, and why not, the inhabitants, with the athlete. And being with Atlético, at the crucial moment in which we are living, requires an extra effort: it is necessary to strengthen the number of paying members, to increase the sponsors and financiers of the club.”
He concluded: “We are born from the people and from the people we live in. This popular matrix has always had a cost: while others grew up on the merits of strength, Atlético survived thanks to popular generosity. We know our history and do not deny it. On the contrary, we want to remain independent , free and growing, but for that everyone’s support is necessary! With us we are stronger!”.
