Parliament calls together

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will brief the House of Commons on the crisis in Afghanistan, the British news agency reports. This discussion should start at 9.30 local time.

Johnson says Britain owes a huge thank you to everyone who has worked to make Afghanistan a better city over the past 20 years.

Many of them, especially women, now need our immediate help. I am proud that the UK has been able to make arrangements to help them and their families live safely in the UK, he said.

Fear of evacuation problems

Britain deployed thousands of troops to secure the evacuation of British citizens and staff from the embassy in Kabul. But military sources fear that the evacuation will not be without problems.

British Defense Vice Admiral Ben Key told The Times that Britain risks withdrawing its soldiers from Afghanistan before the evacuation is completed, Reuters reports.

The reason is that the Taliban, who now holds power in the country and defends security, must agree to the evacuation. Without this consent, Kaye said, British soldiers would have to leave the country and leave the British behind.

In the next few days, Britain will attempt to evacuate 3,000 Britons and 3,000 Afghans who worked with them.

G7 meeting on Afghanistan

US President Joe Biden and Boris Johnson spoke by phone on Tuesday night about the crisis in Afghanistan.

The two agreed to hold an online meeting with G7 leaders to discuss Afghanistan, the White House said. The meeting will be held next week.

The United States has taken back 3,500 people from Afghanistan

The Americans have so far evacuated 3,200 people from Afghanistan. 1,100 of them were picked up on Tuesday, divided into 13 flights. Among those expelled are about 2,000 Afghanis.

“On Tuesday, US military aircraft evacuated approximately 1,100 US citizens, permanent residents of the United States, and their families,” a White House spokesperson said. The spokesperson says they expect the number of evacuees to increase.
