Joe Biden is now pointing the finger strongly at the Chinese leadership. The backdrop is the ongoing skirmishes between the Chinese and Philippine navies in the South China Sea.
– Any attack on Philippine ships in the South China Sea will trigger the mutual defense agreement, the US President said according to Reuters.
The background to the clashes are territorial claims in the maritime region. While the Filipinos believe that the Chinese are constantly harassing their ships unfairly, China responds by claiming that the skirmishes were due to Philippine provocation.
