Diesel price increase: Transportation of goods is considered a halt if the government does not take action

ANTRAM – The National Association of General Road Transport of Merchandise considers that with regard to fuel prices “the limit has already been exceeded” and does not rule out the possibility of organizing a stop, similar to what happened in 2019. To CNN Portugal, André Matías de Oliveira, a spokesman for the association, explains, that “ANTRAM represents more than 2,000 companies, which are in a desperate situation” and at the members’ meeting between July 2 and 3, they will decide what actions to take: “ANTRAM has always preferred the path of dialogue, but what is happening today is that the government has “killed” professional diesel, On the other hand, it cannot compensate companies.”

“What is on the ANTRAM table is a professional diesel replacement and an immediate bill discount for all Portuguese,” says this official.

Andre Matias Oliveira warns that diesel will rise between 4 and 6 cents on Monday. “Currently, all road transport of goods buy diesel at the same price as a layman. There was subsidy for professional diesel but that subsidy ended with ISP dropping,” he explains to CNN Portugal, stressing that this has direct implications for imports and exports. ANTRAM argues that instead of the ISP, there should be a reduction in VAT, similar to what happens in Spain, and that this will be reflected directly in the bills that consumers pay.
