Donald Trump, News Alert | The ruling against Trump is clear: he must pay tens of millions

The ruling in the defamation lawsuit filed against former US President Donald Trump is ready. Trump was ordered to pay $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll. As reported by Reuters news agency on Friday evening.

He must pay $18.3 million in damages to Carroll for defaming her reputation and covering the emotional impact his statements may have caused. The remaining 65 million he was ordered to pay is a penalty.

A lawsuit for defamation

In May 2023, Donald Trump was convicted of assaulting writer E.B. Jane Carroll was ordered to pay damages of five million US dollars to her.

Trump stated after the lawsuit that he had never met her and denied the abuse. This was a message he repeated several times. He then sued Carroll again for defamation.

83.3 million US dollars at today's dollar exchange rate of about 865 million Norwegian krone. Carroll initially asked for $10 million.

“It is absolutely ridiculous. I completely disagree with both rulings,” Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social website shortly after the ruling was announced.

The former president turned to the keyboard shortly after the verdict became clear.

“The legal system is out of control and being used as a political weapon,” Trump wrote. At the same time, he announced that he would appeal the ruling.
