Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, 50, died Friday night in Bogota, where the American alternative rock band was scheduled to perform at stereo picnic festivalThe group announced.

“The Foo Fighters family has been devastated by the tragic and sudden disappearance of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughs will live on with us forever.”

“Our hearts go out to the wife, children and family,” the band added, and demanded that the family’s privacy be respected.

According to local media, the musician, who joined the band in 1997, was found dead in the hotel room where the band is staying in Bogota.

One of the highlights of the festival was the band, with a Friday night show scheduled to take place, as Hawkins’ death was announced an hour before they took to the stage.

The drummer grew up in Laguna Beach, California, where he began studying music.

After the news of the musician’s death, reactions began to appear on social media.

Drummer Ringo Starr posted a picture of Hawkins with a message of peace and love to his family and the band.

Billy Idol wrote that it was “so tragic” followed by a broken-hearted emoji and a picture of the musician.

On their Twitter account, The Smashing Pumpkins also dedicated a blog post to Taylor Hawkins wishing “the deepest sympathies to Taylor’s family, fans and of course his band.”

Nickelback expressed their “total disbelief at the news of Taylor Hawkins. Our deepest condolences to his family, bandmates, team, friends and everyone who has been affected by the music he created with the Foo Fighters, Alanis and more. This is very sad.”

Guns N’ Roses praised the black and white photos.

Queen’s guitarist Brian May chose to leave a message on the social network Instagram.

Gene Simmons chose an image of the musician playing drums and wrote, “Shocked and saddened to hear of Taylor Hawkins’ passing today! Our prayers and condolences go out to the Hawkins family, Foo Fighters, friends and fans. Sad.”

Leann Rimes was just words and wrote that “he was one of my favorite people, always full of love… and will be sorely missed.”
