Due to a shortage of doses, influenza vaccination has been suspended in Volta Redonda South of Rio and Costa Verde

Due to a shortage of doses, influenza vaccination has been suspended in Volta Redonda (RJ). The municipality ran out of vaccines last Saturday (30).

According to the city council, the state government is expected to send new doses this week. Once they arrive, vaccination will resume.

This year, the Ministry of Health decided to advance the campaign to the end of March. Traditionally, the campaign is held between April and May, but this year it began on March 25, due to the increased spread of respiratory viruses in the country.

It is expected that 6.7 million people from priority groups will be immunized across the state of Rio de Janeiro.

In Volta Redonda, influenza virus vaccine is available to the following target audiences:

  • Children aged 6 months to under 6 years;
  • Indigenous children aged 6 months to under 9 years;
  • health workers;
  • pregnant women;
  • Postpartum women;
  • Basic and higher education teachers;
  • Indian people;
  • Seniors aged 60 years and over;
  • homeless people;
  • Security and rescue forces professionals;
  • Armed forces professionals;
  • People with chronic non-communicable diseases and other special clinical conditions (regardless of their age);
  • People with permanent disabilities;
  • truck drivers;
  • Public road transport workers (urban and long-distance);
  • dock workers;
  • Workers in a system that deprives of freedom;
  • Population deprived of liberty, as well as adolescents and young people subject to social and educational measures (aged 12 to 21 years).
