French club midfielder admits that the transfer period was ‘stressful’
Hossam Al-Aawar was one of the many names who were in the closed season on Benfica Road, and it appears that there have been more than just rumours. In an interview with ‘L’Équipe’, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder revealed that he even reached an agreement with the Eagles to move to Luz, but it all ended due to the lack of an agreement between the club. Luz and Lyon, the motto with which he is still associated until 2023. “It was a very stressful transfer period for me. I came to an agreement with almost all the clubs that came forward. Even with Benfica. They were clubs of different positions, with different projects and I didn’t create any Problems Unfortunately, Lyon couldn’t come to an agreement with any of those clubs. I have to respect it, no problem. But I didn’t close any doors. The club wanted to sell me, I wanted to leave. We worked together, but then Lyon didn’t agree, which I understand ,” he explained in an interview with L’Equipe. Incidentally, Houssem El-Aawar ended up staying at Lyon, having played just 30 minutes in a Ligue 1 match this season, against Ajaccio, at the start of the tournament.
