Experts warn of a brand new malware capable of entering banking applications on Android devices – Executive Summary

Security firm ThreatFabric on Monday reported the existence of a new, never-before-seen type of malware that has the ability to directly access banking applications and is even able to remotely control an infected device.

Recently, there has been a significant increase in this malware, thanks to widespread downloading, in which it is “disguised” as a Google Chrome update – the fake update is very similar in design to the official Google update, although it contains several bugs. The spelling should draw attention to what is not real.

When we talk about cybercrime, the main goal of attackers is to obtain your personal and banking data. In most cases, they steal first through fraud and deception, so they can use your data and access your banking apps.

As expected, banking apps are full of control and security measures, with access to any activity or action protected by PINs, passwords, two-factor authentication methods and now also biometric identification (face or fingerprint recognition).

What does this new malware do? When the virus is installed, it creates a screen above any application it opens, thus ensuring that as much information as possible is captured, such as login data and even cookies, as highlighted by the Spanish magazine “El Economista”.

According to experts, malware with these characteristics and capabilities is quite new, and according to ThreatFabric, these and other programs are expected to grow exponentially in the coming weeks, posing a serious risk.

One of the most important tips for dealing with this threat is to install antivirus software and have Google Play Protect analyze all applications before installing them.
