The current social network Facebook is considering changing the company’s name to reflect the tech giant’s ambition to be recognized outside of social networks and all the evils associated with this type of business.

According to The Verge, which cites anonymous sources close to the tech giant, Facebook plans to implement this change as early as next week.

Facebook plans to make this big announcement on October 28, when the “Facebook Connect” conference is taking place. However, the site says, this can happen even before, being a strategic weapon, because the company wants to use the name change to change the public’s perception.

Officially, the name change comes as Facebook is no longer just a social networking company. The new “metaverse” (the online world where users can communicate, play and work in a virtual environment), which will remove the barriers between the real world and the virtual world, is your new bet and the goal is to reflect your name.

Moreover, according to The Verge, Facebook has launched or is about to launch several augmented reality devices on which this change will be supported. Ray-Ban smart glasses were just the beginning and the company is already working on a new model capable of displaying information from the world around us.
