Five foods we all have at home that replace sugar

sThis sugar is not good for anything, as we already know. What you may not realize is that, from fruit to honey, there are many substitutes that can help replace sugar.

With this in mind, the Portuguese Network of CUF Hospitals has developed five health alternatives. see below:

1- fruit

“You can choose fresh or frozen fruit, for example, add bananas, apples, or berries to natural yogurt.”

2- spices

“Try adding a little cinnamon, for example, in coffee.”

3- honey

“It can be used to sweeten and flavor various foods, such as hot drinks, toast, oatmeal, milk, and yogurt.” However, CUF warns: “Children under the age of 12 months should not eat refined sugar or honey, as in addition to the high calorie content, they may contain spores of bacteria that cause botulism. Agave syrup should not be given to children either, Because it’s not pasteurized.”

4- Agave syrup

Also in this case, CUF notes: “Although agave syrup has a slightly lower glycemic index than sugar, agave syrup also raises blood sugar levels.”

5- Stevia

For people with prediabetes or diabetes, stevia can be an alternative to refined sugar. “But don’t forget that stevia is 200 times sweeter than sugar.”
