Over the weekend, parts of central Europe were hit by heavy rainfall. The Swiss Meteorological Institute said on Friday that the forecast maps were reminiscent of floods in central Europe in 2002, when about 80 people died.

“This evening will be a big challenge for all of us,” he wrote. “The amount of water in the Byala Ladika and Morawa rivers is higher than it was during the 1997 flood, and it is still increasing.”
Local authorities have declared flood preparedness in 18 municipalities and regions in Poland, and flood warnings have been issued in 33 municipalities.
“We have a tough night ahead,” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk writes on X.
He visited the town of Glocholaszi on Saturday evening.
Four of them lost their lives in Romania.
Tens of thousands of homes were without power on Saturday in the Czech Republic and Romania as a result of heavy rain, according to Reuters news agency.
In eastern Romania, 5,000 homes are said to have been destroyed. At least four people are said to have died in Galati County.
– Clearly, the priority is to save lives. “At this moment, we have all the logistics necessary to intervene quickly,” Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said when he visited the area on Saturday.
