Galaxy Z Fold 5 is better in design, battery and performance | analysis / review

Galaxy Z Fold 5 is Samsung’s most advanced cell phone of the 2023 lineup and comes with the proposal to be the most complete and feature-packed. Its problem is the exorbitant price tag, which exceeds the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Is it worth it?

Visually, little has changed with Samsung’s new foldable phone. The main novelty is the new hinge that reduces the gap between the two halves of the device. The bezels have been reduced a bit so we have a more compact device. The crease in the middle of the screen is still quite evident and the camera at the bottom of the screen is still noticeable in direct light.

The 7.6-inch inner screen features a Dynamic AMOLED panel with strong brightness and great colors. The 6.2-inch external display doesn’t disappoint either and we have strong brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate, and the stereo audio has good power and well-balanced sound quality.

Fold 5 ships with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in its turbocharged version that debuted exclusively on the Galaxy S23 line. In addition to this, there is 12GB of RAM to ensure a great multitasking experience. It performed well in all the games we tested, but we did notice that the device heats up more, which indicates that it doesn’t come with the same dissipation system as other Samsung devices.

The battery is the same as before, but with more efficient hardware, and it scored bigger in our testing. Recharge time is still slow, as with any Samsung mobile phone with 25W charging. The photography suite hasn’t changed and delivers decent photos, although not Samsung’s best at this point. The camera under the screen is still weak for selfies, however you can use the rear combination.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 didn’t bring a lot of changes to justify the investment, especially now that it’s launching at R$10,000 above. Either way, it’s still a great foldable phone and you can check out all the details in our full review below:
