Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib said that about 400,000 people have fled their homes since the start of the massive Israeli attacks against Hezbollah on Monday.
More than 100,000 people have already been forced to flee. The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated sharply since October last year, when the war on the Gaza Strip began.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, about 570 people have been killed in Lebanon since Monday. At least 50 of them must be children.
Attack on Tel Aviv
On Wednesday morning, new attacks were reported in southern Lebanon. Israeli warplanes launched the attack at 5 p.m. local time, according to Lebanon's National News Agency. The Israel Defense Forces confirms that the attack is underway.
On the Israeli side, the defense ministry reported that they intercepted a missile that entered Israeli airspace from Lebanon. Flight alerts were issued in Tel Aviv and other parts of Israel.
Hezbollah said it carried out a rocket attack on the headquarters of the Mossad intelligence agency outside Tel Aviv. Hezbollah has previously blamed Mossad for explosions that targeted several thousand pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon last week.
This is the first time that Hezbollah has fired rockets at central Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces said it destroyed the launch pad from which the missile was fired in Lebanon.
Britain evacuates
As a result of the escalation of attacks this week, the British authorities are urging all their nationals to leave Lebanon. The country is sending 700 troops to Cyprus to help with the evacuation.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says Lebanon is now balancing on the brink.
– We should all fear escalation. He said that the people of Lebanon, the people of Israel and the people of the world cannot allow Lebanon to become a new Gaza.
