Fuel prices will rise again next week, with experts expecting that both diesel and gasoline will record new heights, after falling for the first time this week, by about 15 and 12 cents, respectively, according to data from the General Directorate of Fuel. Energy and Geology (DGEG).

“If the week ends here, the price of diesel is supposed to rise by about 15 cents per liter on Monday, and the price of gasoline by 8 cents,” an industry source told Multinews. However, expectations are that product prices will continue to rise in international markets – “particularly after the European Union (EU) announced that it is studying Possible ban Russian oil barrels as a form of pressure on Moscow.

DGEG showed that fuel has already risen 11 times and fallen only once since the beginning of the year. During this period, the price of diesel increased by 34 cents a liter, while gasoline prices increased by 25 cents. This means that filling a 60-liter tank with gasoline costs 15 euros more than it did in the first week of January. To fill the diesel tank, it takes 20 euros more than twelve weeks.

DGEG data shows that the average price of a simple diesel liter in Portugal currently costs 1,840 euros per liter, while the price of a simple 95 petrol is 1,919 euros. The latest fuel bulletin from the European Commission indicates that Portugal has the seventh most expensive gasoline 95 out of 27 EU countries, 10 cents above the European average and 22 cents more expensive than Spain. Diesel occupies ninth place in the European ranking.
