His sperm was stolen – her father is an unknown daughter

I did not understand anything

In the 1980s, Bengt and his wife had problems conceiving children, and so he submitted sperm for a fertility test.

After 31 years comes the shocking news:

He has a daughter named Rebecca Kristofferson. Bengt understood nothing.

– What’s going on in my life? I am the parent of a child who was born 8 months before my daughter. I understand that neither the child nor the mother is wrong about it. But it was also a nuisance. Do they have a mother and father, a good upbringing?

– I never volunteered as a donor, as I thought it was very important to be a father.

first meeting

In the documentary, daughter Rebecca Kristofferson and her mother discover who her real father is.

He will meet Bengt and his daughter for the first time, and they are both very excited. When they see each other, they end up in a big hug.

– I’m so glad you wanted to meet me, says Kristofferson.

– I was so worried that you didn’t want to, Bengt replies.

– We have the same mouth and nose, – says the daughter, smiling.

SVT will begin investigations in 2022.

Their investigation showed that the same doctor at Halmstad Hospital in southwestern Sweden appeared to have systematically stolen sperm from unknown men. The doctor is not alive today.

Good news for Putin

This must have happened between 1985 and 1996. With the help of DNA tests and genealogists, five cases of involuntary donation have so far been proven. Two of these are siblings of Rebecca Kristofferson.

According to the hospital, about 35 donor children were born in the period 1985-1996. But the doctor in question mentioned in old newspaper articles that he had also practiced insemination previously, i.e. assisted fertilization where sperms are inserted into the uterus. It should have resulted in about 15 children, SVT reports.

In total, there must have been at least 50 children in which the physician was involved.

– It’s a hell of a mess. Rebecka Kristoffersson says in the documentary: I think it is a shame that he is no longer alive and can be held accountable for what he did.

I will not investigate further

According to Swedish law, assisted reproduction must be documented in a medical record by a responsible doctor and kept for at least 70 years.

Donor children also have the right to information about their biological father.

The hospital in Halmstad cannot answer whether semen has been used illegally on more than five occasions that have been proven and reported, and is not willing to investigate the matter further.

The house was hiding a strange secret

– It is clearly sad to know that something has gone wrong and that this work was not at its peak when it was managed, says Christian Leiden, head of the hospital’s operations committee for SVT.

– We are obligated to disclose the information that was recorded. So there’s nothing else we can do but share the information that’s available, Leiden says.

Bengt believes the hospital should take greater responsibility for what has now been discovered.
