The traditional Pentecostal Mass, with a message of faith, unity among peoples and appreciation for science, was held at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Manaus, on Sunday (23).

The ceremony was presided over by Bishop Leonardo Steiner. Due to the epidemic, the masses, which had already gathered more than 100,000 people in previous years at the Sambodromo Convention Center, were fewer.

In addition to the cathedral faithful, representatives of pastors, movements, and parish services were able to participate as a means of representing all of the “people of God” in the Church of Manaus.

Pentecost marks the birth of the Church and is celebrated by Catholics around the world 50 days after Easter. At the end of the celebration, the Easter Candle is extinguished, a large candle lit on Easter night, as a sign of the call of every baptized to be a light in the church and in the community.

Last year, due to restrictions imposed by the emerging coronavirus pandemic, the celebration was held behind closed doors and without the presence of the faithful. But this year, with the Catholic Church resuming face-to-face ceremonies, there could have been fewer believers.
