“It was unbelievable. There was no money to buy bread…”

sEcardo Sa Pinto coached Vasco da Gama in 15 matches. A difficult period for the Portuguese coach, not only because of the results, but also because of the financial difficulties the club was going through.

In an interview with Globo, Sá Pinto reveals that he already knows such difficulties, but never imagined the situations he might go through.

“A month delay, a month and that’s fine, but I was there for three months during which my coaching staff and I didn’t get paid. The players didn’t get paid, and no one got paid. I had to. Help the players financially because they didn’t have Salaries. What do they eat. Vasco managers had to buy bread and other things to make breakfast. Anyway, incredible things. I helped a player who had no money. Helped other managers because there was no money to buy bread, ham or juice. Sometimes I was I would like to make dates on the field and there was no money to buy paint. We had to buy it,” reported the Portuguese, who is still traveling this season to Turkey, after experience in Brazil.

As for late wages, Sa Pinto is still waiting.

“I didn’t know there was an election for the club that took place 15 days after I arrived. I was prepared for a difficult financial situation, the club paid here and there, but almost three months without paying me and the players is an incredible thing.
