Joao Almeida drops to fourth place overall in Paris-Nice after Stage 4 – Cycling

Colombian Santiago Buitrago wins the race, and Australian Luke Blabb leads the classification

In a very difficult race, with five mountainous repetitions, Joao Almeida (UAE) wasted time, Wednesday, in the fourth stage of the Paris-Nice race, finishing in 12th place, 48 seconds behind the Colombian winner Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious). Australian Luke Blabb (Jayko Al-Ula) finished second (10 seconds behind) and wore the yellow jersey.

The leader is now 13 seconds ahead of Buitrago and 27 seconds ahead of Brandon McNulty (UAE), the former leader and Almeida's teammate on the North American team. The Portuguese driver finished third and became fourth by 29 seconds, one ahead of one of the favorites, Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick Step).

The connection between Chalon-sur-Saône and Mont Brouilly (183 km) was activated by Plapp, with an attack about 25 km from the finish line, which was caught and overtaken by Buitrago, while Dane Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) was the center 3rd 8a 27s, the same time as Evenpoel (4th).

The other Portuguese in the race, Ruben Guerrero (Movistar), finished the race in 24th place, 2.46 minutes behind Buitrago, and rose to 25th place overall with a time of 4.23.

The fifth stage takes place this Thursday, with the peloton covering 193.5 km, between Saint-Sauveur-de-Montagut and Sisteron.
