Good news for those who need to fill up their tank: Fuel prices will drop next week, with experts predicting a drop in diesel in the range of 6 cents a liter and 7 cents in the case of gasoline.

A source in the sector told “Multinews”, “If the week ends here, the price of petrol and diesel will drop by about 7 and 6 cents per liter respectively next Monday.” It should be noted that these values are still subject to changes in the market on Friday.

According to official data from Directorate General of Energy and Geology (DGEG), published on their page, the average price of Simple Petrol 95 is currently €2,073 per liter. The price of a liter of diesel is 1.977 euros.

If the announced drop comes true next week, then simple 95 gasoline will “prove” itself very close to the 2 euro barrier – remember that a liter of gasoline has exceeded this value since last May.

This will be the eighth drop in gasoline since the beginning of the year, although it has already registered 19 weeks of increases. In terms of diesel, it hit its ninth low since January, “contrasting” the 17 highs in 2022.

During this period, the price of diesel increased by 33 cents a liter, while gasoline prices increased by 42 cents. This means that filling a 60-liter tank with diesel next week will cost €19.8 more than it did in January. To fill the gas tank, it takes 25.2 euros more than the first week of the year.

However, with the announced decrease, the 60-liter tank of the simple 95 petrol will now be 4.2 euros cheaper than the previous week, while the diesel version will mean a discount of 3.6 euros.

The latest fuel bulletin issued by the European Commission indicates that Portugal has the 10th most expensive gasoline 95 out of the 27 countries in the European Union. Diesel takes 12th place in the European ranking.
