Lisbon debuts in September in green. BCP, Galp and Mota are at their highest levels before the pandemic

The Portuguese stock exchange ended the first session of September slightly higher. The day marked the highest levels since before the pandemic for three listed companies: BCP, Galp and Mota-Engil.

The Portuguese stock exchange ended the opening session of September slightly higher on a day when major European markets split between gains and losses. The PSI index advanced by 0.13% to reach 6,182.07 points, with six listed stocks rising and nine stocks declining. Corticeira Amorim shares closed unchanged.

Today’s stars are Galeb, BCB and Mota Engel. The oil company’s share gained 2.48% and closed at 13.02 euros, the highest since the end of February 2020. Ghalib was driven by the rise in oil prices and the high recommendation and “target” by Morgan Stanley.

The bank’s share, led by Miguel Maia, rose 1.67% to 0.2617 euros. This is the highest closing value since the end of July 2019.

For its part, Mota-Engil continues its unstoppable rise and advanced by 2.26%, to reach 2.935 euros, renewing its highest level in more than five years. The construction company has shone this year, already doubling its stock market value and surpassing the €900m “market capitalization”. Good semi-annual results, revision of the strategic plan and increase in price target by GB Capital contributed to the stock boost.

However, the gains of the PSI Index, which fell by 2.38% to €22.94, were mainly capped by Geronimo Martins, as well as the EDP family. The parent company declined by 1%, to close at 4.164 euros, while EDP Renováveis fell by 0.15%, to 16.88 euros.
