The Minister of Internal Administration ordered an urgent investigation into today's events related to the football match between Famalicao and Sporting, and called a meeting on Sunday with senior officials of the PSP and GNR.

Minister José Luis Carneiro ordered the opening of an urgent investigation by the General Inspectorate of Internal Administration (IGAI) into the events related to the police seizure by the PSP in the Famalicão – Sporting match in the Primera Division of Football. “Especially those who report widespread and sudden medical injuries reported by police officers.”

The information issued by the ministry this evening comes in the wake of the postponement of the match between Famalicao and Sporting, after officials concluded that there were no security conditions.

The PSP National Directorate explained that an abnormal number of agents are on sick leave, which means the match will be postponed.

The Public Prosecution adds that “before the start of police work at this event, an unusual number of police officers reported being sick and reporting their sick leave.”

“The Judicial Police immediately activated police resources from other police units, who also came to report cases of unwell, traveling to hospital units,” a statement from the security force said.

The Ministry's statement this evening also said that the Minister ordered the IGAI to open an investigation into statements made by a trade union leader regarding the activity of the Socialist Progressive Party in the context of the upcoming electoral work, i.e. the possibility that the transfer of ballot boxes was at stake. Votes.

In an interview with TV station SIC Notícias, the head of the National Police Union said that not only football matches are in danger, but legislative elections could also be in danger, because it is the police who transport the ballot boxes.

Progressive Socialist Party forces and the National National Guard have participated in protests in recent weeks to demand improved salary conditions.
