McLaren F1 changed ownership over 19 million euros

There may still be, in practice, four months until the end of the year, however, and the iconic 1995 McLaren F1 risks being the most expensive car ever sold at auction this year.

The car was purchased on Friday, anonymously, in Pebble Beach, USA, for over €19.2 million (at Monday’s transfer price).

The price paid exceeded expectations, as auctioneer Gooding & Co expected this car to sell for around 14 million euros. In addition to risking being the car to be bought at auction at the highest price this year, this car was the most expensive Formula One car ever.

The McLaren F1 was the star of the 1990s, with a 6-liter V-12 engine, more than 600 horsepower and a top speed of 320 km/h, and was described by the press at the time as “the first Formula 1 road car”.

The cost of the car ranged from 800,000 dollars (67,904 euros) to 1 million dollars (850,000 euros).

Model sold out within Car Week Monterey, California. So far, the revenue collected from auctions promoted during the event is 34% higher than that collected in the 2019 edition, and exceeds 202 million euros, according to Hagerty, the organizer of the initiative.
