Microsoft empties the Control Panel in Windows 11

One of the new features that was included in the final version of Windows 11, which was distributed to members of the Windows Insider Program, was the transfer of several Control Panel options to the Settings app, continuing the process that started in Windows 8.

Advanced sharing settings have been moved to the Settings app in Windows 11 Build 22509, which was distributed to Insiders on December 1, 2021.

The Control Panel has been around since the first versions of Windows and hasn’t changed much since its release since the release of Windows 8, which corresponds to the Settings app, duplicating many of the functions of the more modern app.

In the Windows 11 Build 22509 release notes, Microsoft says:

We’ve changed advanced sharing settings (such as network discovery, file and printer sharing, and public folder sharing) to a new page in the Settings app under Advanced Network Settings.

We’ve made some updates to the specific pages under “Printers & Scanners” to display more information about your printer or scanner directly in the Settings app.

Now some icons related to the Control Panel network and device settings redirect to the corresponding pages in the Settings app.
