Microsoft has completed the acquisition of Nuance for just $19.7 billion

During late 2021, Microsoft announced its acquisition of artificial intelligence and technology giant Nuance Communications for $19.7 billion, citing its efforts in the areas of cloud, hardware, software, and use in medicine.

Following the regulatory approval periods for the purchase, it was reported on Friday, March 4, that Nuance is an official part of Microsoft, joining other divisions of the company such as Office 365, GitHub, Azure, Xbox, LinkedIn, Windows and Surface.

“Completing this significant and strategic acquisition combines the best of conversational AI and environmental intelligence from Nuance with Microsoft’s secure and trusted cloud offerings for the industry,” said Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of the Cloud + AI Group at Microsoft.

Nuance will be integrated into the company’s Microsoft Cloud + AI suite, which already includes HoloLens, PlayFab, Game Stack, Azure Kinect, CyberX, AltspaceVR and ReFirmLabs, helping the security, medical, third-party software (entertainment) and hardware sectors. .

This acquisition is Microsoft’s third largest ever, following the $26 billion purchase of LinkedIn in 2016, and the recent purchase of Activision Blizzard by the company’s Xbox (Microsoft Gaming) division, which acquired the game’s publisher as Call of Duty. for $68.7 billion, making it one of the largest acquisitions in the entire entertainment industry, which also includes Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox ($71 billion) and Time-Warner from AT&T ($85 billion).
