Four people were found dead after the accident, and the Greek coast guard on Thursday evening searched several ships and a helicopter, looking for people who may be missing.
According to Greek state TV, the stranded migrants will be evacuated from the island on Friday at the earliest, due to the dark and difficult weather conditions. It is not known what its condition was, or the size of the small island.
Antikythera is located about 235 kilometers south of Athens.
On Wednesday, a rubber boat carrying migrants sank off the Greek island of Folegandros in the Aegean Sea. Three dead people were found after the accident, while 13 were rescued. An unknown number are still missing and their death is feared.
According to some survivors, there were about 50 people on the boat, while others said there were 32 people on the boat.
Thus, the shipwreck off Folegandros may have claimed between 20 and 40 lives, and is, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the worst accident to occur in the Aegean this year.
– This shipwreck is a painful reminder that people are still embarking on dangerous journeys in their search for safety, says UNHCR Representative in Greece, Adriano Silvestri.
UNHCR estimates that more than 2,500 people died or disappeared trying to reach Europe by sea in the first eleven months of the year.
