At the meeting, Minister Luciana Santos highlighted 40 years of scientific cooperation between Brazil and China, especially in the field of space through the CBERS programme. The minister advocated improving the Brazil-China Young Scientist Exchange Program by further encouraging visits by Brazilian scientists, especially young doctors, to China, and by young Chinese doctors, to Brazilian research institutions.

During the meeting, Alkimin and Li Xi also highlighted the importance of trade exchanges and technological cooperation between the two countries.

The visit of Li Xi and his delegation precedes events scheduled for 2024, a year marked by two symbolic dates: 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and 20 years of the establishment of the China-Brazil High-level Committee for Coordination and Cooperation (COSBAN). .

The COSBAN Committee, chaired by Geraldo Alckmin, is the main mechanism for the regular dialogue between Brazil and China, which includes 11 subcommittees. MCTI is involved in three of them: space; Science, technology and innovation; Industry, information and communications technology.
