The federation indicated that an effort was being made to put pressure on Russia and that the club’s selection could not be taken lightly
Matthias Normann, the Norwegian international midfielder who played for Norwich last season (on loan from Rostov), has been left out of the squad as a result of his selection for his new club. The 26-year-old decided to move to Dynamo Moscow and was informed of the decision by the coach, Steele Sobakin, and it was made public by the federation.
“Basically, it is not the role of the federation to say anything about the club’s selection of national team players, but we are in an exceptional situation. All Norwegian and European football agree to jointly press Russia as a belligerent and we have to be effective in our position,” said federation president Liz Clavins. All Russian teams are banned from international sports competitions. Stahl and I agree that Norman cannot represent Norway when he now plays for a new Russian club.”
