The municipality of Oeiras joins Association for Diabetes Protection of Portugal (APDP) On the occasion of November 14, World Diabetes Day, we launched the international campaign promoted by the International Diabetes Federation, under the slogan “Diabetes: Know your risks, know what you should do.”
The celebration of this date aims to raise awareness among patients, family members, healthcare professionals and society in general about this disease.
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease, which can have several causes and results from various pathophysiological changes that lead to persistently high blood glucose (blood sugar concentration).
About 90% of diabetes cases are classified as type 2 diabetes. This type mainly affects adults and older people, who are overweight or obese, who do not exercise and follow unhealthy lifestyles, and there is often a history Familial.
This disease has been identified as one of the five priority health problems in the 2022-2030 Local Health Plan of the Group of Health Centers of Western Lisbon and Oeiras.
