On the N109, in Vagos, a hotel-like house is born | building

It was on old farmland in Vagos that house 109, a 700-square-meter building characterized by the curved shape of its facade. Architect Maria Vradino, responsible for the project at Studio Ferrari, explains that the shape “appears with the aim of creating a space of greater privacy, ensuring optimal orientation of the sun” and solving problems related to the noise of Nacional 109, which is characterized by “intense industrial traffic”.

“At first it was a shock for me to build a house in that area of ​​109, which is a very busy area. I’ve tried to convince the clients to find other land, because it’s not the ideal place for a house, which has to be in a quieter place where you can rest, which is the opposite of This land,” adds the architect.

The clients wanted to feel like they were living in a little oasis with “architectural references from the hotels they visited, to feel like they were on vacation and to be able to enjoy the outdoor space,” he says. Maria Vradino.

Thus, the entire “recognized horizontal” project is designed to create a space that is not affected by the movement and noise of the road through the shape of the building and to create a garden located between the house and the road. The oddly curved shape is “the highlight of this project,” assesses the architect. “Not because of the aesthetic issue, which was not a whim, but because of the cleverness of the solution, otherwise it would not be possible to solve the problems of the site,” he says. “Without the Curve, the building wouldn’t have worked as well.”

In describing the project, the architect suggests that “simple and solid” housing can provide clues for “a critical response to the intrusion into the land adjacent to national roads”, and “identify the missing base so that these roads, which are also streets, can effectively obtain Use housing with dignity.”
