Petropolis expands influenza vaccine to the entire population لجميع

Romulo Barroso – Memoirs Special

The Ministry of Health opens influenza vaccination to all residents in Petropolis, starting Thursday (8). This measure will follow new guidelines from the Ministry of Health, which recommended last Saturday (3) that influenza vaccination be carried out outside the priority groups defined at the beginning of the campaign.

The expansion outlined by the Ministry of Health is due to lower demand for the vaccine across Brazil. As of Saturday, immunization coverage was 42% of the country’s target audience – priority groups add up to about 79 million people, but only 34.2 million doses have been applied since the campaign began in April. One of the reasons for this low demand is the simultaneous vaccination against covid-19 – the Ministry of Health itself requires people to give preference to a coronavirus vaccination agent. To justify the expansion of the influenza vaccine, Minister Marcelo Quiroga stated that “the goal is to reduce cases of serious influenza that also stress our health system.”

According to the panel Influenza 2021, the portal of the Ministry of Health containing data on vaccination, Petrópolis applied 59,228 doses, which represents a coverage of 47.6% of the target audience initially created (which is 127 thousand people).

The coverage of the children’s group is even greater, with nearly 13,000 boys and girls aged six months to six years who are not fully immunized – numbering 61.3% of this segment of the population. It is a similar indicator to that of the elderly (61.1%), where 36 thousand doses were applied to those over 60 years

The Ministry of Health also considered a priority group for the vaccine: teachers, pregnant and postpartum women (up to 45 days after birth), indigenous peoples, health workers, people with comorbidities and other special clinical conditions, permanently disabled truck drivers and public transport workers on roads, cities and distances Tawila, port workers, members of the security and rescue forces, the armed forces, personnel of the deprivation of liberty regime, and the population deprived of liberty.

How to vaccinate

The Ministry of Health’s recommendation is that those who are about to be vaccinated against COVID-19 should first take an immunizing agent against the novel coronavirus. Once this is done, it is necessary to wait at least 14 days to get the flu vaccination.
