The incident has shocked many in the entertainment community, where Handy had built a decades-long career as a respected character actor in film and television.
LAPD Responded After Disturbing 911 Call
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were dispatched to the property after a 911 caller reportedly stated, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
When officers arrived, they discovered Handy unconscious in the front yard of the home. Police said he had suffered at least one stab wound to the chest.
Emergency responders transported the actor to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, the son of Handy’s girlfriend. Authorities said Gledhill lived at the residence with his mother.
Investigators said Gledhill told responding officers that he was the person they were searching for.
He was later booked on suspicion of murder.
According to jail records, Gledhill’s bail was set at $2 million.
Authorities have not released additional details about what may have led to the stabbing, and investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
