The Ministry of Health decided to extend the polio and multiple vaccination campaigns until September 30.

The reason is the low vaccination coverage for children aged one to four years across the country. In the Araraquara region, the scenario changes from city to city.

Araraquara has successfully vaccinated 85% of children which is above the national average.

The director of epidemiological surveillance, Natalia Tomazem Rios, says that parents need to vaccinate their children so that eradicated diseases are not registered again.

“Here in Araraquara we have a coverage of 85%, which is considered low to protect the population, and the target is 95%, because in this way we run the risk of the diseases that have already been eradicated returning. The target audience is children aged 1 to 4 years 11 months and 29 days, to get the polio vaccine, the extra dose of the drop. It indicates that in the case of children under 15 years of age, the vaccination booklet is updated.

The Monitoring Director states that the units are open from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, to receive residents.

“Children and teenagers can go to any basic unit in the municipality to receive an extra dose of the droplet and check if there is any overdue vaccine,” he confirms.

In other cities in the region, the situation is also worrying. In Américo Brasiliense, vaccination coverage is only 35%.

In Gavião Peixoto, only 158 doses of polio vaccine were administered out of a total of 279, a total of 56.6% of the target audience.
