Putin gives 'green light' to use US assets in Russia to offset sanctions and freeze Russian assets – Executive Summary

On Thursday, Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing the use of American property on Russian territory to compensate for the confiscation of Russian assets in the United States, as well as the sanctions approved by Washington in response to the Russian invasion.

In this way, the Kremlin can use the movable and immovable property of US authorities, companies and citizens located on Russian territory, as well as the value of their property, shares in Russian companies and other property rights in the Eurasian country, according to the TASS news agency.

Now, the State Committee for Foreign Investment Control will be able to provide Russian courts with a list of US properties that, “taking into account the principle of proportionality,” can be used to “compensate for damages caused by the White House.” House measures.

According to the decree signed by the Russian President, this measure stipulates “the extinction of the property rights of an American or an American” and their subsequent transfer to the Russian authorities “for compensation for the resulting damages.”
