Malaria has been one of the most severe public health problems worldwide and disease in Ghana for the past years.

In recent times, the AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Limited has been actively working in fighting malaria, especially in malaria risk areas.

According to the Social and Behaviour Change (SBCC)  officer of the Sissala East municipal, Mr. Ebenezer Abankwa,  the rainy season is when young people and pregnant women get attacked by malaria in Wa and Obuasi in the Upper West and Ashanti regions respectively.

He further disclosed that malaria disease is closely related to naturally existing environmental and climatic conditions as well as poor sanitation in most areas across the country.

“The mosquito needs a water medium to lay eggs and reproduce. When the rains set in, water gather in receptacles which serve as breeding sites for mosquitoes ” he explained.

He, however, stressed it is the responsibility of us all to try as much as possible to prevent water from stagnating in the environment.
