The Iberian Peninsula and the atmosphere of France are already dusty. Greetings from the distant Sahara Desert reached Bavaria on Monday afternoon. Like two weeks ago, this desert dust event was not a flash, but will keep the free state busy until Friday.

Low Sahara dust concentration is expected

On the one hand the exciting question is: when the sun is sometimes completely engulfed in dust and the clouds are yellow without being gray, is the concentration as high this time as it was then? And drivers, in particular, want to know if the weekend destination will again be called a car wash – namely: is there a chance of rain, which will carry dust from the atmosphere to the ground?

According to current data from dust forecast samples, this time around Bavaria’s atmosphere is only polluted by a maximum of 50,000 to 100,000 tons of Sahara dust. Maximum values ​​will fall between Tuesday evening and Wednesday noon. It’s not desert dust like it was two weeks ago. In some cases, the total dust load at that time reached 175,000 tons.

“Blood showers” on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

However, at least those who observe the sky know this. On the one hand, in the form of a very dim sky, when there are no clouds the sky appears unusually pale and the outside of the clouds cannot be seen in cloudy conditions. The disk of the sun disappears behind a haze of dust before it reaches the horizon. And the twilight colors reach a higher height in the sky than usual.

And what about the orange desert dust rain, popularly known as the “Blood Rain”? Unfortunately, Bayern was not spared. It will rain in Bavaria, especially from Tuesday evening to Wednesday. The “wash-out” will be more intense in Franconia and the Upper Palatinate region than in southern Bavaria.

It is recommended to go to the car wash

From the point of view of the sky, the paint on the cars will not be as bad as it was two weeks ago. So as not to be seen in the dirt path. But the shine is gone, and those who respect this should book a car wash early Saturday – before the big car wash flow of late risers begins.

In the course of Friday, there is only a tiny, no longer perceptible amount of desert dust. Instead, something else falls from the sky: snow.
