Seat belts can reveal unpleasant car secrets

Published on

NWhen buying a used car, seat belts can be one of your greatest allies. They can tell you if the car has been in a flood or accident.

When inspecting the car, Motor Newspaper advises removing the belt completely and checking for water marks, mud or even mold. Here you can find out if the car has been exposed to any type of flooding.

Next, it is also important to look at the bottom of the seat belt, where there is a label with the production data. You can see the manufacturer’s name, number, and date on it, so you can tell if the belt is original or not. If it does not match, this could be a warning sign and indicate that for some reason, the belt has already been replaced.

Finally, before proceeding with the purchase of a used car, remove the belt in the normal way and then release it. It should retract automatically. If it becomes loose, this is a bad sign and may indicate that the car has been in an accident that affected the seat belt pretensioners.
