“Our thoughts are with the Chebbi family at this awful time. We hope that their privacy will be respected while dealing with their tragic loss,” the rugby club said in a statement.

Cattigan made his international debut against Wales in 2018, winning a total of 19 caps for Scotland.

In April, she started in all three Scotland of Nations matches against England, Italy and Wales.

Her last international participation was during the European rugby qualifiers, when she came on as a substitute in the victory over Spain.

Specialist staff at the rugby club are now working to provide ongoing support to those most affected, according to the Scottish Rugby Association.

Central to the development of women’s rugby

When Katigan was not playing rugby, she studied criminology and sociology at university. She later earned a master’s degree in Sports Psychology.

“Chippee has been a huge part of County for many years and will be missed by everyone at the club,” the rugby club wrote in the statement.

“She played a pivotal role in the development of women’s rugby at the club and was an inspiration to the girls in the youth division,” he said.

Her death also unleashed a number of honors in the rugby world.

“It is deeply saddening to hear about the tragic passing of Scottish rugby player Siobhan Kategang. She has been such a good player and an inspiration to so many,” wrote World Rugby team boss and former England captain Bill Beaumont.

The cause of death is currently unknown.
