Skin cancers have types and subtypes, the most common being basal cell carcinoma, which accounts for 80% of diagnosed cases, followed by squamous cell carcinoma. They, and others, can reach more neglected areas such as the intimate area and the scalp, ”says dermatologist Fernanda Sibera, of Oncoclínicas in Brasilia.

The specialist warns of other places in the body where skin cancer can appear:

1. In the anus

Squamous cell carcinoma, also known as squamous cell carcinoma, can affect areas of the skin even if they are not exposed to sunlight, such as the anus. The disease may be related to infection due to the human papilloma virus (HPV) and present as a chronic lesion on the skin or mucous membranes.

2. Under the nail

“Another rare but deadly form of melanoma is a shiny neoplasm, which can appear under the nail, like a brown line extending from the skin to the other end of the nail. It is noteworthy that the tumor can have darker or lighter shades and usually appears on the thumb. And the big toes,” says Fernanda.

3. In the ear

Ear cancer usually appears as a swelling that can invade into the ear. In some cases, the tumor can cause ear pain. This type of cancer is caused by exposure to sunlight, although the contact area of ​​the sun with the hearing aid is small.

4. Under the tongue

When eating products that contain carcinogens, such as alcohol and cigarettes, the mouth comes into contact with toxins that damage oral tissues and may increase the chance of cancer. In this version, skin cancer can appear as an ulcer under the tongue or on the gums.

5. On the scalp

Skin cancer of the scalp is more common than you might think, but it often goes unnoticed because it is covered by hair. Scalp melanoma is the most common type of baldness among people.

“It is worth noting that bald men, or women with androgenetic alopecia, are patients who have a higher chance of developing scalp cancer. This manifests itself not only in the form of swelling, but also in the form of a wound, ”says the dermatologist.

6. In the eyes

The eye is an area constantly exposed to sunlight. So, it is worth paying attention to swelling, wounds, redness and bleeding in the area. According to the National Cancer Institute (Inca), people who are exposed to the sun for a long time and often are the group most likely to develop skin cancer, especially those with fair skin, hair and eyes.
