Standards are specified in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment dated 24 August 2012 on the quantities of certain substances in the air. According to them:

• PM10 pollution: Daily PM10 concentration level 50µg / m³ And should not exceed 35 days in a year. In addition, the annual average should not exceed 40 g / m³.
• PM2.5 pollution: For PM2.5 dust, the regulation contains only the annual standard 25µg / m³. The World Health Organization (WHO) standard is 25 µg / m³ daily. We need to keep in mind that any amount of PM2.5 dust can adversely affect our health.

What is PM2.5 dust?

PM2.5 is dust with particles not exceeding 2.5μm. The World Health Organization (WHO) described it as the most harmful to human health in the group of air pollutants. Its harmful, among other things, is that its particles are so small that they can penetrate the alveoli into the bloodstream. Continuous inhalation of contaminated PM2.5 dust has been shown to shorten lifespan. Even short-term exposure can be harmful and increase the risk of respiratory and circulatory diseases. In addition, there are direct disturbance symptoms as a result of contact with polluted air, such as: cough, worsening of asthma, and shortness of breath. Breathing air polluted with PM2.5 dust also increases the risk of heart attack and arrhythmia.

What is PM10 dust?

PM10 is a dust particle with a diameter of less than or equal to 10 m. Its occurrence is mainly related to the combustion process of solid and liquid fuels. Dust may contain toxic and harmful substances to humans. Smoke, soot, asbestos, metal particles (arsenic, nickel, cadmium, lead), dioxins, furans and benzopyrene and other polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons – all of which are not only dangerous but also have a negative impact on our health.

How to check SMOG?

To check the current air quality, we use open data provided by the system Censor.Community And GIOS. The data of the sensors located in the area where we prepare the report is averaged over the last 15 minutes and published in an accessible format. For simplicity, we considered a high standard of PM2.5 to be 25 g / m³ and 40 µg / m³ for PM10.
