Sporting announced, on Friday, the departure of athletes Irina Rodriguez, Sarah Moreira and Lea Lemos from the women’s athletics team, after confirming that contact with the club had ended. Jessica Augusto, who returned to Sporting de Braga.
Discus thrower Irina Rodriguez has been representing the green and white crest since 2019, having been present at the 2012 and 2020 Olympic Games, as well as at several World and European Games, helping the club win track cups for the European Champions Clubs in 2016 and 2018.
Sarah Moreira, middle and long-distance running runner, arrived at Alvalade in 2015, attending the 2016 Olympics, European and World Games, having won the gold medal in the 2016 European Half Marathon. For Sporting, Sarah Moreira was a European track and field champion. And cross-country and won multiple national track, indoor track, cross-country and road championships.
Already Leah Lemos, the cross and middle distance runner, has been an athlete since last season, having contributed to the forays to the national, cross-country, and indoor track championships this year.
On its official website, Sporting thanked “professionalism, dedication and seriousness,” wishing “the best personal and professional happiness for the athletes.”
