Study shows the new variant is more aggressive than micron

Published on

A new study by Japanese researchers from the universities of Tokyo, Kumamoto, Hokkaido and Kyoto showed that a variant of Ômicron, BA.2, is more violent Of the original Micron strain. According to the research, which has not yet been reviewed, the main difference is that the new subtype of the virus appears to infect lung cells, increasing the risk of death.

Specialists point out that Ômicron has a preference for upper airway Instead of the lungs, which reduces their lethality. In the research, the lungs of mice infected with BA.2 showed a higher level of viral RNA compared with those infected with BA.1.

One of the study’s conclusions is that the variant resists the immunity induced by the original micron, so that those newly infected with the micron could be infected with BA.2.

BA.2 clone is 1.4 times bigger Who made BA.1. “Our multiscale investigations indicate that the overall health risk of BA.2 is potentially greater than that of BA.1,” the researchers wrote, who argue that the subtype should be declared as a new variant.

In a recent survey, the Instituto Todos pela Saúde (ITpS) analyzed that there is no evidence of infection growth by BA.2 in Brazil.
